Take 2 or 3 clear photos from the same angle. One from the front while panting, one from the side, and one of the gums if your dog tolerates it. Date the photos. If you ever need to ask your vet, a comparison over 1 month, 6 months, or 1 year is more useful than memory alone.

Your veterinarian will usually want a short history: how long the spots have been there, whether they’ve changed size or shape, whether the dog is eating normally, and whether there are any oral symptoms. They may also ask if the dog has had dental work, trauma from chewing sticks or hard toys, or any mouth bleeding.
On exam, they’ll look at the whole mouth, not just the tongue. That includes the gums, palate, teeth, and lymph nodes under
