Lifted a pot and found this squirming mass of tiny gray coils on the damp soil. It looks like a living pile of metallic springs. Is this something to worry about?

If you simply want them gone from that spot, the easiest step is to move the pot and let the area dry a bit. Sunlight and airflow make a big difference. You can gently nudge them into a leaf-litter area or compost corner with a trowel if you don’t want them by the patio or entryway.

I do not recommend spraying first and asking questions later. In many cases, there’s no need for a pesticide at all. Pick up any soggy leaves underneath, scrape away matted organic debris, and check whether the pot is holding too much moisture beneath it. Pot feet, bricks, or risers that lift a container by even 1/2 inch to 1 inch can improve drainage and reduce the damp shelter they love.
