Eleanor stood confidently, apparently waiting for him to become upset or complain about the unusual gift.
Instead, Leo quietly folded the flaps closed.
He smoothed the top of the box, pushed it back across the table, and placed it in front of her.
“Grandma, you can keep it,” he said.
Eleanor raised her eyebrows.
Leo continued in his innocent, matter-of-fact voice.
“You might need it when I’m grown up and you’re old. Because you’ll be on your own.”
For several seconds, nobody said anything.
